My Philosophy
Storytelling drives everything I do, whether through my work as a Communication Studies major and journalism minor, working for my student newspaper, taking photos or creating brand identities. We have the unique ability to capture humanity through digital, written and nonverbal communications, and I love finding the moments that may pass us by without notice.
Growing up, I wanted to be an author and artist. I loved creating new realities out of words and kept binders full of stories I’d written. As I got older, I decided to look into marketing and digital communications, and found my passion in those fields through photography and social media. Still, the way we communicate is fascinating to me and when I entered college, I wanted to focus on the ways we can create meaning and connections with each other.
As a journalist and photographer, I focus on candid moments and the things that make us human. From a top collegiate hockey player who carries a notebook with him wherever he goes, play-by-play broadcaster who calls for some of the top collegiate hockey teams in the country despite only playing intramural hockey briefly in college, to award-winning candid photographs for The National Horseman, I find the humanity behind traditional media coverage.
