My Journey
I fell in love with freezing moments in time and while I’d dabbled in portraits through my budding business, I focused on horses and horse shows. Following my fifteenth birthday, I was offered a position to join The National Horseman’s photography team. As the youngest photographer they’d ever hired, I knew they were taking a chance on me. At my first show with National Horseman, I took hundreds of pictures, believing I would get the “right” shot if I took enough.
I was elated but as the youngest photographer they’d ever hired, I knew they were taking a chance on me. Surrounded by photographers decades older than me with deep connections in the horse world, I couldn’t imagine why anyone would take me seriously. I created Lilly Asano Photography in 2017 and began capturing clients’ stories. Throughout high school, my business took off and I started working independently for myself.
